Kamala Harris, the 49th Vice President of the United States since 2021 under Joe Biden, holds several historic distinctions: she is the first woman, the first Black American, the first South Asian, and the first daughter of immigrants to assume the role of Vice President. Her trailblazing career includes being the first Black woman to serve as Attorney General and U.S. Senator from California. As the American elections approach in November, there is speculation about whether Harris will become the 50th President, making history as the first woman, Black American, and South Asian President of the United States.

After Joe Biden withdraws from the presidential race, many Democrats, including Biden himself, have endorsed Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party. Former President Barack Obama has also expressed his support for Harris.
Kamala Harris is married to Doug Emhoff, a Jewish man who has been an outspoken advocate against antisemitism. Emhoff’s ex-wife has also recently shown support for Harris.
Several Hollywood celebrities have endorsed Kamala Harris, including George Clooney, Cardi B, and Beyoncé. Beyoncé has allowed Harris to use her song “Freedom” in the campaign. Ariana Grande has posted a photo with Harris on social media, urging her followers to register to vote. Cardi B has actively defended Harris against critics who question her qualifications based on her personal life, expressing excitement about Harris as the 2024 candidate.
Kamala Harris’s political career began in 2003 as the District Attorney of San Francisco, followed by her role as Attorney General of California in 2010, and her election as U.S. Senator in 2016. During her tenure, she focused on issues such as hunger eradication, rent relief, mental health care, small business support, environmental and climate crises, and LGBTQ+ rights. Harris is also known for her critical stance on former President Trump’s immigration policies and her high-profile questioning of Supreme Court nominees.
In the 2020 presidential campaign, Harris debated against Trump and Biden. Though her debate performance was not as strong as expected, she later supported Biden and was selected as his running mate, which also helped the Democrats secure Black votes.
As Vice President, Harris has achieved notable successes in infrastructure legislation, immigration reform, gun control, and defending abortion rights, as well as efforts to address migration from Central America. These accomplishments may bolster her bid for the presidency or help her defend against Republican challenger Donald Trump.
The Republican National Convention has officially nominated Donald Trump for president, with JD Vance as his running mate.
